Matthias Fritsch | Moving Silence

Ο Matthias Fritsch ανιχνεύει τις δυνατότητες και τους περιορισμούς πολιτιστικών πρακτικών μέσα από τη συμμετοχή.  Τα έργα του, πέρα από τα πλαίσια της τέχνης, χρησιμοποιούν και άλλες πλατφόρμες και κανάλια διάχυσης.

Matthias Fritsch traces the potential and boundaries of related cultural practices by way of participation. Correspondingly, his works are not only shown in an art context, but he also uses other platforms and distribution channels.

Japanese artist Shingo Inao (a.k.a. "stra.") performs live with a sonification of body movement using sensor-driven techniques using his self-made instruments with tilt and distance sensors. His performances and objects&installations have been shown in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Russia, America and Japan. His first album as solo project "stra." will be released in 2013. Shingo Inao will  be performing on Friday 14 December to the films "Buscam No.2" (2001) by Matthias Fritsch and "A ras de suelo" (2010) by Amanda Lopez.  

On Saturday 15 December he will be performing with his instrument Qgo.

Xaver Xylophon | Moving Silence

These days Xaver Xylophon is making animated short films but in his early years he wanted to become a composer for film music and that's why he convinced his parents to get piano lessons. Even if interests have shifted since then, Xaver still plays the piano and sometimes there comes the opportunity to accompany one of the ongoing projects with some homemade music.

Αυτές τις μέρες ο Xaver Xylophon φτιάχνει ταινίες μικρού μήκους – κινουμένων σχεδίων, αλλά όταν ήταν μικρός ήθελε να γίνει συνθέτης για μουσική ταινιών και γι’ αυτό έπεισε τους γονείς του να παρακολουθήσει μαθήματα πιάνου.  Παρόλο που τα ενδιαφέροντα του έχουν αλλάξει από τότε, ο Xaver συνεχίζει να παίζει πιάνο και κάποτε έχει ευκαιρίες να συνοδεύσει ένα από τα εν εξελίξει έργα με «σπιτική» μουσική.

The second special two-day event on contemporary "silent" moving image and experimental sound

Following the great success of the first Moving Silence event in Cyprus, held last December at the ARTos Foundation, the second Moving Silence event will take place this year within the framework of the 4th X-Dream Festival.  On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of December 2012, musicians from Germany, Japan, Greece and Cyprus will meet at the ARTos Foundation to perform live soundtracks for "silent" video and film works by contemporary creators.  On the second day of this special two-day event, performances will take place with unique self-made instruments. 

"The contemporary cinema could take back this expressive freedom" the Moving Silence members state.  "Any visual style can profit from a sound language, by using advanced digital technologies as well as old analog techniques. Live performances sustain and amplify the films as musicians can breathe new life into silent cinema, which inappropriately remained silent for such a long time." Encouraging collaboration and exchange between musicians, artists and cinematographers, the Moving Silence platform therefore invites the Nicosia audience to new audiovisual experiences expressed through live improvisations and interpretations, where experimental image and sound are expected to meet in unusual and unexpected ways.

What is Moving Silence?

Moving Silence was originally founded in summer 2009 by the musician Marco Brosolo, filmmaker Matthias Fritsch and producer Federico Bassetti with the aim  to create events that connect the roots of cinematography with the present aesthetics of image, the live music production and the potential of new technology. It constitutes a poetic, intercultural and collaborative attempt in times of information overload. It embraces experimentation and merging between contemporary forms of visual and sound inviting artists from different parts of the world to join in. Moving Silence events have taken place in different cities around Europe.

Ένα διήμερο αφιερωμένο στη σύγχρονη βωβή κινούμενη εικόνα και τον πειραματικό ήχο

  

Σε συνέχεια της μεγάλης επιτυχίας του πρώτου Moving Silence στην Κύπρο, που πραγματοποιήθηκε τον περασμένο Δεκέμβριο στο ίδρυμα ARTos, το δεύτερο Moving Silence πραγματοποιείται φέτος στα πλαίσια του 4^ου X-Dream Festival.  Την Παρασκευή 14 και το Σάββατο 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2012 στις 8:30 μ.μ. στο ίδρυμα ΑRTοs, μουσικοί από Γερμανία,  Ιαπωνία, Ελλάδα και Κύπρο θα συναντηθούν για να ερμηνεύσουν ζωντανά στο κοινό βωβές ταινίες σύγχρονων δημιουργών.  Το δεύτερο βράδυ οι παραστάσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν με μοναδικά αυτοσχέδια όργανα.

"O σύγχρονος κινηματογράφος μπορεί να ανακτήσει την εκφραστική ελευθερία του” λένε τα μέλη του Moving Silence. "Κάθε ύφος εικόνας μπορεί να ωφεληθεί από τη γλώσσα του ήχου, ψηφιακού ή αναλογικού. Οι ζωντανές παραστάσεις ενισχύουν τα φιλμ καθώς οι μουσικοί μπορούν να φέρουν μια νέα πνοή ζωής στον βωβό κινηματογράφο, που δυστυχώς έμεινε σιωπηλός για πολύ καιρό”. Ενθαρρύνοντας τη συνεργασία και ανταλλαγή μεταξύ μουσικών, καλλιτεχνών και κινηματογραφιστών, και αφήνοντας χώρο στο ζωντανό αυτοσχεδιασμό, η πλατφόρμα Moving Silence καλεί  το κοινό να έρθει σε επαφή με νέες οπτικοακουστικές εμπειρίες, όπου ο ήχος και η εικόνα θα συναντηθούν με με ασυνήθιστο και απροσδόκητο τρόπο.

Τι είναι το Moving Silence;

Η πλατφόρμα κινηματογραφιστών και μουσικών Moving Silence  ιδρύθηκε το 2009 στο Βερολίνο από τον μουσικό Marco Brosolo, τον κινηματογραφιστή Matthias Fritsch και τον παραγωγό Federico Bassetti με με σκοπό να συνδέσει τις ρίζες του κινηματογράφου με την αισθητική της σύγχρονης εικόνας, τη ζωντανή παραγωγή μουσικής και πιθανές νέες τεχνολογίες. Είναι μια ποιητική, διαπολιτισμική προσπάθεια συνεργασίας σε μία εποχή υπερφορτωμένη με πληροφορίες.  Αγκαλιάζει τον πειραματισμό και τη συγχώνευση μεταξύ σύγχρονων μορφών οπτικής και ηχητικής. Εκδηλώσεις του Moving Silence έχουν οργανωθεί σε διαφορετικές ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις.

'Εκθεση / Exhibition "Europe Timespace"

The 3rd X-Dream Festival begins with the exhibition entitled "Europe Timespace" on Friday, 2 of December 2011 at 19:30.

Culture and art, as an integral part of it, can create the conditions for analysis and criticism at times where complex thought tries to balance somewhere between chaos and nothing.  Europe and the concept of timespace constitute real elements of our hypothetical and subjective consciousness as citizens of today.  The timespace is independent of the observer.  Nevertheless, for the description of natural phenomena, each observer chooses a suitable coordinate system.  Only timespace, as a unified concept, which is mathematically space of Minkowski, is absolute, while components of space and time are aspects dependent of the observer (reference system).  But in life, there is no absolute.

The time-space continuum includes four dimensions: three dimensions of space and one of time.  A point in timespace is called an event (γεγονός).  Each event is determined by four coordinates (ct, x, y, z), the physical meaning of which depends on which coordinate system we use to describe the timespace.  Examples of such events are the explosion of a star or hitting a drum, or a crisis in economy or even a crisis in values.

In times of crisis, where insecurity, fear, create conditions of defensive aggression we suggest the exhibition Europe –Timespace, where everything is done and evaluated through the present.  A positioning through critical thinking for the I, us through Europe of today.  Artists from Europe, specifically the Balkans, France, Germany, Cyprus and neighboring countries position themselves through digital media.  Coordinates of this positioning are humour, absurdity, critical mood and play.  With these we can talk visually about what is called the curvature of time in physics, and extricate from classical mechanics the gravitational field, the Euclidean geometry.  This means that gravity can affect light; this means a lot for our future.

An exhibition as a substance and simplicity exercise.  An exercise where play is a dominant element but at the same time hope itself.

Το 3ο X-Dream Festival ξεκινά με την έκθεση με τίτλο "Europe Timespace" την Παρασκευή, 2 Δεκεμβρίου 2011 στις 7:30 μ.μ.

Ο πολιτισμός και η τέχνη ως αναπόσπαστο μέρος του, μπορούν να δημιουργήσουν συνθήκες ανάλυσης και κριτικής σε καιρούς όπου η σύνθετη σκέψη ακροβατεί μεταξύ του χάους  και του τίποτα. Η Ευρώπη και η έννοια του χωροχρόνου αποτελούν υπαρκτά στοιχεία της υποθετικής και υποκειμενικής μας συνειδητότητας ως πολίτες του σήμερα. Ο χωρόχρονος είναι ανεξάρτητος του παρατηρητή. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, για την περιγραφή των φυσικών φαινομένων ο κάθε παρατηρητής επιλέγει ένα κατάλληλο σύστημα συντεταγμένων Μόνο ο χωροχρόνος ως ενοποιημένη έννοια, που είναι μαθηματικά χώρος του Μινκόφσκι, είναι απόλυτος, ενώ οι συνιστώσες του, ο χώρος και ο χρόνος, αποτελούν πλευρές του που εξαρτώνται από τον παρατηρητή (το σύστημα αναφοράς). Στην ζωή όμως δεν υπάρχει το απόλυτο.

Το χωροχρονικό συνεχές περιλαμβάνει τέσσερις διαστάσεις: τρεις διαστάσεις για το χώρο και μια για το χρόνο. Ένα σημείο στον χωρόχρονο ονομάζεται γεγονός. Το κάθε γεγονός καθορίζεται από τέσσερις συντεταγμένες, (ct, x, y, z), η φυσική σημασία των οποίων εξαρτάται από το ποιο σύστημα συντεταγμένων χρησιμοποιούμε για να περιγράψουμε τον χωρόχρονο. Παραδείγματα τέτοιων γεγονότων είναι η έκρηξη ενός αστέρα ή το χτύπημα ενός τύμπανου ή μια κρίση στην οικονομία ή ακόμη και μια κρίση αξιών.

Μέσα σε εποχές κρίσεων όπου η ανασφάλεια, ο φόβος, δημιουργούν συνθήκες αμυντικής επιθετικότητας προτείνουμε την έκθεση Europe - Timespace όπου τα πάντα γίνονται και αξιολογούνται μέσα από το τώρα.  Μια τοποθέτηση μέσα από κριτική σκέψη για το εγώ, εμείς μέσα από την Ευρώπη του σήμερα. Καλλιτέχνες από την Ευρώπη και συγκεκριμένα τα Βαλκάνια, Γαλλία, Γερμανία, Κύπρο αλλά και από γειτονικές  χώρες τοποθετούνται εικαστικά μέσα από ψηφιακά μέσα.  Συντεταγμένες αυτού του χωροχρόνου είναι το χιούμορ,  η παραδοξότητα, η κριτική διάθεση και το παιχνίδι. Με αυτές μπορούμε να μιλούμε εικαστικά για αυτό που στη φυσική ονομάζουμε καμπύλωση του χωροχρόνου, και την απεγκλώβιση από την κλασσική μηχανική το βαρυτικό πεδίο, την ευκλείδια γεωμετρία. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι η βαρύτητα μπορεί να επηρεάσει το φως. Και αυτό σημαίνει πολλά για το μέλλον μας.

Μια έκθεση ως άσκηση περιεκτικότητας, απλότητας, ουσίας και χωρίς γαρνιτούρες. Μια άσκηση όπου το παιχνίδι είναι το κυρίαρχο στοιχείο αλλά και η ίδια η ελπίδα.
