Μια βραδιά αφιερωμένη στη σύγχρονη κινούμενη εικόνα  και τον πειραματικό ήχο.

Σε συνέχεια της μεγάλης επιτυχίας του Moving Silence στην Κύπρο τα τελευταία πέντε χρόνια στο Ίδρυμα ARTos, το Moving Silence πραγματοποιείται φέτος για έκτη συνεχή χρονιά σε συνεργασία με το Ινστιτούτο Γκαίτε, και με τη στήριξη των Πολιτιστικών Υπηρεσιών του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και του Ινστιτούτου Θερβάντες Λευκωσίας, μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8^ου X-Dream Festival.  Την Πέμπτη, 8 Δεκεμβρίου 2016 στις 20:30 στο Ίδρυμα ARTos, μουσικοί και συνθέτες θα συναντηθούν για να ερμηνεύσουν ζωντανά στο κοινό μουσική που συνέθεσαν ειδικά για ταινίες χωρίς ήχο σύγχρονων δημιουργών της επιλογής τους.  Οι θεατές θα έχουν μια μοναδική εμπειρία όπου οι μουσικοί ερμηνεύουν ζωντανά τη μουσική τους ενώ γίνεται παράλληλη προβολή της ταινίας που επέλεξαν, που τους ενέπνευσε για το κομμάτι που ερμηνεύουν. 

"O σύγχρονος κινηματογράφος μπορεί να ανακτήσει την εκφραστική ελευθερία του” λένε τα μέλη του Moving Silence. "Κάθε ύφος εικόνας μπορεί να ωφεληθεί από τη γλώσσα του ήχου, ψηφιακού ή αναλογικού. Οι ζωντανές παραστάσεις ενισχύουν τα φιλμ καθώς οι μουσικοί μπορούν να φέρουν μια νέα πνοή ζωής στον βωβό κινηματογράφο, που, δυστυχώς, έμεινε σιωπηλός για πολύ καιρό”. Ενθαρρύνοντας τη συνεργασία και ανταλλαγή μεταξύ μουσικών, καλλιτεχνών και κινηματογραφιστών, και αφήνοντας χώρο στο ζωντανό αυτοσχεδιασμό, η πλατφόρμα Moving Silence καλεί  το κοινό να έρθει σε επαφή με νέες οπτικοακουστικές εμπειρίες, όπου ο ήχος και η εικόνα θα συναντηθούν με ασυνήθιστο και απροσδόκητο τρόπο.

Τι είναι το Moving Silence;

Η πλατφόρμα κινηματογραφιστών και μουσικών Moving Silence  ιδρύθηκε το 2009 στο Βερολίνο από τον μουσικό Marco Brosolo, τον κινηματογραφιστή Matthias Fritsch και τον παραγωγό Federico Bassetti με σκοπό να συνδέσει τις ρίζες του κινηματογράφου με την αισθητική της σύγχρονης εικόνας, τη ζωντανή παραγωγή μουσικής και πιθανές νέες τεχνολογίες. Είναι μια ποιητική, διαπολιτισμική προσπάθεια συνεργασίας σε μία εποχή υπερφορτωμένη με πληροφορίες.  Αγκαλιάζει τον πειραματισμό και τη συγχώνευση μεταξύ σύγχρονων μορφών οπτικής και ηχητικής. Εκδηλώσεις του Moving Silence έχουν οργανωθεί σε διαφορετικές ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις.

An evening dedicated to contemporary “silent” moving image and experimental sound

Following the great success of Moving Silence in Cyprus for the past five years at ARTos Foundation, Moving Silence takes place for the sixth consecutive year in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Cyprus and with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and Instituto Cervantes Nicosia, within the framework of the 8^th X-Dream Festival. On Thursday, 8 December 2016 at 20:30 at ARTos Foundation, musicians and composers will meet to perform live soundtracks for video and film works without sound by contemporary creators of their choice.  The audience will have a unique experience where the musicians-composers perform live their music while the films/videos that have inspired them are simultaneously screened. 

"The contemporary cinema could take back this expressive freedom" the Moving Silence’s members state.  "Any visual style can profit from a sound language, by using advanced digital technologies as well as old analogue techniques. Live performances sustain and amplify the films as musicians can breathe new life into silent cinema, which inappropriately remained silent for such a long time." Encouraging collaboration and exchange between musicians, artists and cinematographers, the Moving Silence platform, therefore, invites the Nicosia audience to new audiovisual experiences expressed through live improvisations and interpretations, where experimental image and sound are expected to meet in unusual and unexpected ways.

What is Moving Silence?

Moving Silence was originally founded in the summer of 2009 by the musician Marco Brosolo, filmmaker Matthias Fritsch and producer Federico Bassetti with the aim to create events that connect the roots of cinematography with the present aesthetics of image, the live music production and the potential of new technology. It constitutes a poetic, intercultural and collaborative attempt in times of information overload. It embraces experimentation and merging between contemporary forms of visual and sound inviting artists from different parts of the world to join in. Moving Silence events have taken place in different cities around Europe.

Μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8ου X-Dream Festival

Το Ίδρυμα ARTos σε συνεργασία με το Moving Silence και το Ινστιτούτο Γκαίτε, και με τη στήριξη των Πολιτιστικών Υπηρεσιών του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και το Ινστιτούτο Θερβάντες Λευκωσίας, παρουσιάζουν το "Echoes from Berlin” μια βραδιά οπτικοακουστικών παραστάσεων από τους μουσικούς Ann & Bones (DE) και Diegoldstein (DE) οι οποίοι έχουν σαν βάση το Βερολίνο. Το "Echoes from Berlin” λαμβάνει χώρα στις 7 Δεκεμβρίου και ώρα 20:30, στο Ίδρυμα ARTos, μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8^ου X-Dream Festival.

Ann & Bones:
Από μικρή η Ann Weller 'δημιουργούσε' παραμύθια με το πιάνο της. Σήμερα γράφει τραγούδια μαζί με τον παραγωγό και κιθαρίστα Borils Meinhold και ο ντράμερ Benny Glass. Η ζεστή και απαλή φωνή της με αρμονία το κλασικό άκουσμα του πιάνο, αναδύεται μέσα από τους μινιμαλιστικούς ρυθμούς των ντραμς και τα μυστικιστικά-surf ακούσματα της κιθάρα. Η μπάντα εμφανίζεται στην ηλεκτρονική σκηνή των κλαμπ του Βερολίνου.


* Ο κιθαρίστας Michael Di Lalla θα υποστηρίξει τη σόλο εκτέλεση της Ann Weller.

Michael Di Lalla:
Από την Νέα Υόρκη, ο Michael είναι ένας καταξιωμένος συνθέτης, κιθαρίστας, παραγωγός και δάσκαλος μουσικής. Μέσα στα 20 χρόνια της μουσικής του καριέρας, έχει συνεργαστεί με καταξιωμένους καλλιτέχνες του χώρου. Η μουσική του έχει παρουσιαστεί στην τηλεόραση μέσα από τα τηλεοπτικά κανάλια MTV, ABC, CBS, BBC, και πολλά άλλα. Είναι ο τραγουδιστής και ο κιθαρίστας της μπάντα του Keygrip. Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν κυκλοφορήσει 2 άλμπουμ πλήρους μήκους με indie rock ακούσματα.

Diegostein:
Το πρότζεκτ DIE! GOLDSTEIN, του Diego Mar, με έδρα το Βερολίνο έχει παίξει σε πόλεις όπως το Βερολίνο, τη Βαρκελώνη, τη Μαδρίτη, το Λονδίνο, τη Γλασκόβη, τη Ρώμη, το Τόκιο, Κιότο, και την Μπανγκόκ. Έχει μοιραστεί τη ίδια σκηνή με μπάντες όπως οι Mogwai, Oceansize, Sakamoto και Vessels. O DIE! GOLDSTEIN προσκαλεί τον ακροατή να ενταχθεί σε μια όμορφη εξέλιξη, από το σκοτάδι της απελπιστικής δυσ- oυτοπίας στο φωτισμένο ουτοπικό παρόν.

ARTos Foundation in collaboration with Moving Silence and the Goethe-Institute, and with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Instituto Cervntes Nicosia present “Echoes from Berlin” an evening of audio-visual performances by the Berlin based musicians Ann & Bones (DE) and Diegostein (DE), which will take place on the 7^th December at 20:30, at ARTos Foundation, within the framework of the 8^th X-Dream Festival.

Ann & Bones:

As a little girl Ann Weller was setting fairy-tales into music on her piano. Today she writes songs together with producer and guitarist Borils Meinhold and drummer Benny Glass. Her warm, fragile voice and her classically influenced piano style are enveloped in minimalistic drum grooves and a mystic-surf guitar. It shines through that the band is resident within the Berlin electronic club scene.

*The American guitar player Michael Di Lalla will be supporting Ann’s solo show

Michael Di Lalla:

A lifelong New Yorker, Michael is an accomplished songwriter, guitarist, producer and music educator. In his 20 year music career, he has worked with some of the industry's best. His compelling music has been featured in television around the world including MTV, ABC, CBS, BBC among many others. He is the lead singer and guitarist for his melodic indie rock band Keygrip, who to date, have released 2 full length albums.

Diegostein:

DIE! GOLDSTEIN is the Berlin-based project of Diego Mar. He has played more than 100 times live worldwide, in cities such as Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, London, Glasgow, Rome, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Bangkok, and has shared a stage with bands such as Mogwai, Oceansize, Sakamoto and Vessels. DIE! GOLDSTEIN invites the listener to join his beautiful progression from dark and desperate dystopian states through mal-topia and hope to finally arrive at an enlightened, utopian present.

Within the framework of the 8th X-Dream Festival.

ARTos Foundation in collaboration with the Art/European Animation Center and the Career Office of the Athens School of Fine Arts and with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and The International Motion Festival of the European University Cyprus, organise two two-day-long workshops for all those who would like to enrich their knowledge and skills in modern digital media and the respective software, in order to apply this gained knowledge in their professional practice and creative self-expression.

There are three workshops available, out of which only the two most popular will take place.

The workshops are taking place within the framework of the 8th X-Dream Festival.

Sculpture with polymer clay

During the workshop, the participants will learn how to construct a face with polymer clay as well as the basics of anatomy. Polymeric clay has many conveniences and special properties, and can be used to create sculptures of striking detail. It can perfectly convey organic forms, as realistic as silicone constructed sculptures. Finally, the participants will use silicone to create a mold and they will use molding plaster.

Stages:

- Armature Construction.

-Creating the first shapes.

-Working techniques and solutions for polymer clay.

-Baking clay.

-Silicone mold.

-Molding plaster.

Digital Sculpture (2 workshops)

Digital sculpture is the simulation of the classic sculpture process through 3D design programs. Knowledge of the program that the artist will be working with and the traditional drawing principles are combined in order to create the fore-wanted final visual outcome. zbrush is the most widespread digital sculpting program and the most powerful, since it has prevailed in the global market. In this course the participant will be taught the basic principles of the program and will also learn how to effectively create a digital sculpture capable of being used in an animation film, as character design or illustration in a hypothetical magazine cover.

* The two digital sculpture workshops offered, vary in their thematic, as one will focus mostly on introducing the program, whilst the other one will focus in sculpture and the creation of a face and getting to know basic program tools.

A. Digital sculpture – Human face Creation.

Topics:

-Introduction to the program (interface).

-Basic Sculpture tools.

-Sculpting Basic shapes.

-Topology: Basic rules and solutions.

-Constructing a face. Basic shapes.

-Working with the program’s anatomical model.

Μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8ου X-Dream Festival.

Το Ίδρυμα ARTos σε συνεργασία με το Art/European Animation Center και το Γραφείο Διασύνδεσης της Ανώτατής Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών Αθήνας, και με τη στήριξη των Πολιτιστικών Υπηρεσιών του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού και του Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινούμενων Γραφικών του Ευρωπαϊκού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου, διοργανώνουν δύο διήμερα εργαστήρια για όλους εκείνους που θέλουν να εμπλουτίσουν τις γνώσεις και τις δεξιότητές τους στα σύγχρονα ψηφιακά μέσα και τα αντίστοιχα λογισμικά προγράμματα, με στόχο την εφαρμογή της γνώσης αυτής στην επαγγελματική δραστηριότητά τους και την καλλιτεχνική αυτό-έκφρασή τους. 

Οι ενδιαφερόμενοι μπορούν να επιλέξουν μεταξύ τριών διαφορετικών εργαστηρίων, εκ των οποίων μόνο τα δύο δημοφιλέστερα θα πραγματοποιηθούν. 

Τα εργαστήρια λαμβάνουν χώρα μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8ου X-Dream Festival.

Γλυπτική με πολυμερικό πηλό

Κατά την διάρκεια του εργαστηρίου οι συμμετέχοντες θα μάθουν πώς να κατασκευάζουν ένα πρόσωπο με πολυμερικό πηλό όπως και τις βασικές αρχές ανατομίας. Ο πολυμερικός πηλός έχει πολλές ευκολίες και ξεχωριστές ιδιότητες, παρέχοντας τη δυνατότητα υποστήριξης εντυπωσιακής λεπτομέρειας. Μπορεί να αποδώσει τέλεια οργανικές φόρμες με ρεαλιστικότατα αντίστοιχη της σιλικόνης. Τέλος, οι συμμετέχοντες θα χρησιμοποιήσουν σιλικόνη για την δημιουργία καλουπιού και θα χυτεύσουν γύψο. 

Στάδια:

-Κατασκευή αρματούρας.

-Δημιουργώντας τα πρώτα σχήματα.

-Τεχνικές εργασίας και λύσεις για τον πολυμερικο πηλό.

-Ψήνοντας τον πηλό. 

-Καλούπι από σιλικόνη. 

-Χυτεύοντας γύψο.

Ψηφιακή Γλυπτική (2 Εργαστήρια)

Η ψηφιακή γλυπτική είναι προσομοίωση της κλασικής γλυπτικής διαδικασίας μέσω προγραμμάτων τρισδιάστατου σχεδιασμού. Η γνώση του προγράμματος στο οποίο ο καλλιτέχνης θα εργαστεί και οι παραδοσιακές αρχές του σχεδίου συνδέονται ώστε τελικό εικαστικό αποτέλεσμα να είναι το προσδοκώμενο. Το zbrush είναι το πιο διαδεδομένο πρόγραμμα ψηφιακής γλυπτικής και το πλέον ισχυρό αφού έχει επικρατήσει στην παγκόσμια αγορά. Στο συγκεκριμένο σεμινάριο οι συμμετέχοντες θα διδαχτούν τις βασικές αρχές του προγράμματος και παράλληλα θα μάθουν πως να δημιουργούν με αποτελεσματικό τρόπο ένα ψηφιακό γλυπτό ικανό να χρησιμοποιηθεί σε μια ταινία animation, ως characterdesign ή ως illustration σε ένα υποτιθέμενο εξώφυλλο περιοδικού.

*Τα δύο εργαστήρια ψηφιακής γλυπτικής διαφέρουν στη θεματική τους καθώς το ένα θα εστιάσει περισσότερο στη διδασκαλία του προγράμματος ενώ το άλλο στη γλυπτική και τη δημιουργία ενός προσώπου παράλληλα με τη διδασκαλία βασικών εργαλείων του προγράμματος. 

Α. Ψηφιακή γλυπτική – δημιουργία ανθρώπινου προσώπου.

-Παρουσίαση του προγράμματος (interface).

-Βασικά εργαλεία γλυπτικής.

-Σκαλίζοντας βασικά σχήματα.

-Δουλεύοντας με το μοντέλο ανατομίας του προγράμματος. 

-Δουλεύοντας με περισσότερα από ένα ztool.

-Export για τρισδιάστατη εκτύπωση. 

-Render και export για δημιουργία 2d εικόνας γραφιστικών. 

-Ολοκληρώνοντας στο Photoshop.

«Αισθάνομαι αυτό που τραγουδάω και τραγουδάω ό, τι αισθάνομαι, βλέπω αυτό που ακούω και ακούω ό, τι βλέπω.

Το κόβω και το κολλάω. Κοιτάζω πίσω και σας λέω τι βλέπω.

Με τον τρόπο μου, στα χαρτιά μου και στα χέρια μου, το τραγουδάω για εσάς.

Το γράφω με γράσο στους πίνακές μου, έτσι ώστε ο ήχος μου να παραμείνει.

Το φωνάζω δυνατά με τη σιγανή φωνή μου. Το κρατάω ενωμένο - αυτό είμαι.

Η πένα στο χαρτί μου με κρατά ζεστή.

Το νήμα της ζωής μου είναι το καταφύγιο μου.

Στο σχήμα του κοκκινισμένου 8 θα παραμείνω για πάντα»

Το Ίδρυμα ARTos παρουσιάζει την οπτική και μουσική παράσταση Synesthetic Re-action, η οποία αναπτύχθηκε μέσα στα πλαίσια της εβδομαδιαίας Εικαστικής Φιλοξενίας της καλλιτέχνιδας, μουσικού, συνθέτριας και στοχάστριας Ida-Marie Corell (DE), στο Ίδρυμα ARTos, Λευκωσία, Κύπρος. Η παράσταση βασίζεται σε μια διαδικασία συλλογής και τεκμηρίωσης τοπικών υλικών και βίντεο και την παραγωγή μιας μουσικής σύνθεσης και ενός κοστουμιού φτιαγμένο από πλαστικό και άλλα υλικά. Το Synesthestic Re-action λαμβάνει χώρα στις 7 Ιουλίου 2016, και ώρα 21:00, στο Ίδρυμα ARTos, μέσα στα πλαίσια του 8^ου X-Dream Festival και με τη στήριξη των Πολιτιστικών Υπηρεσιών του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού.

Εν καιρώ παγκόσμιας μαζικής παραγωγής, κατανάλωσης, παγκόσμιας «trash» κουλτούρας και τεχνικής αναπαραγωγής, το έργο της καλλιτέχνιδας παρέχει πρόσβαση σε «offline», αναλογικές, συναισθητικές και, ως εκ τούτου, σπάνιες και ζωντανές εμπειρίες. Λίγα λόγια για την Ida-Marie Corell:

Το καλλιτεχνικό έργο της Δρ. Ida-Marie Corell βρίσκετε στη διασταύρωση της μουσικής, της τέχνης και της μετάδοσης γνώσεων. Το διεπιστημονικό της έργο καταπιάνεται με θέματα όπως ο μαζικός καταναλωτισμός, η ταυτότητα, η συναισθησία, το συναίσθημα, το πλαστικό, οι πλαστικές σακούλες και η αίσθηση. Η διατριβή της «Η φαινομενολογία των πλαστικών σακουλιών" (The phenomenology of the plastic bags) κέρδισε την εκδοτική επιχορήγηση «edition angewandte» του Πανεπιστημίου Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών της Βιέννης και δημοσιεύθηκε το 2011 με τίτλο "Alltagsobjekt Plastiktüte" στο Springer Wien New York  Verlag. Το 2ο της βιβλίο "Ο καλλιτέχνης είναι κάτοικος" (The artist is resident) κέρδισε την εκδοτική επιχορήγηση "Florian und Ursula Werner" και το βραβείο Kunsthalle Arlberg 1800 Art 2013.

Μεταξύ άλλων η Corell παρουσίασε τη δουλειά της στη Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας, στη Μπιενάλε της Αθήνας, στο Μουσείο Τέχνης και Σχεδιασμού Winthertur Switzerland, στο MUDAC Lausanne Switzerland, στο MAK Vienna, στο Kuva Leonding, στο Kunstahlle Arlberg 1800, στο Marshtall Tent Oktoberfest Munich, στο Piano City Milano, στο AUB Beirut Lebanon, στο DeAppel Amsterdam, στο Generali Foundation Vienna, στο Gallery Weekend Berlin, στο Frieze London κτλ.

Within the framework of the 8^th X-dream Festival

"I feel what I sing and I sing what I feel, I see what I hear and I hear what I see.

I cut it out and I glue it together. I look behind and I tell you about.
With my way on my papers and in my hands I sing it for you.
I grease it in to my paintings, so my sound will remain.

I scream it out loud with my tinder quiet voice. I keep it together - this is what I am.

The pen on my paper keeps me warm.
The yarn of my life is my shelter.

In the shape of the red coloured 8 I ́ll remain forever and ever."

ARTos Foundation presents Synesthetic Re-action, a visual and music performance of the work developed during a 1 week-long Artist Residency by the artist, musician, composer and thinker Ida-Marie Corell (DE), at ARTos Foundation, Nicosia, Cyprus. The performance will be based on a process of collection and documentation of found local materials and footage and the production of a music composition and a costume made out of found "local" plastic foils and other materials. Synesthetic Re-action is taking place on the 7^th July 2016, at 21:00, at ARTos Foundation, within the framework of the 8^th X-Dream Festival and with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.  

In times of global mass production, consumption, global trash and technical reproduction, the artist’s work provides an access to offline, analogue, synesthetic and, therefore, rare and live experiences. Each performance, recording, concert and exhibition is unique, as it is never repeated.

A few words about Ida-Marie Corell:

Dr. Ida-Marie Corell is working at the intersection of music, art and knowledge transfer. In her interdisciplinary work she works with themes like mass consumerism, identity, synaesthesia, emotion, plastic, plastic bags and aesthesis. Her dissertation "the phenomenology of the plastic bags" won the publishing grant "edition angewandte" of the University of the Applied Arts Vienna and was published in 2011 titled "Alltagsobjekt Plastiktüte" at Springer Wien New York Verlag. Her 2nd book "The artist is resident" won the publishing grant "Florian und Ursula Werner" and the Kunsthalle Arlberg 1800 Art Award 2013.

Within the framework of the 8th X-Dream Festival

ARTos Foundation in collaboration with the French Institute in Cyprus, and with the support of the Municipality of Larnaca and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture,  present “Julot – Hula Hoopla!”; an outdoor Circus Arts Performance, which will take place on the 5th May 2016 at Finikoudes (Athens avenue, Seafront stage) Larnaca, in the framework of the 8th X-Dream Festival. Julot will present his show at 16:00 and 17:00.  

And here is our man, Julot, the elastic and flexible wonder who will play with hoops, rhythms and his body; and all these while balancing on a nine meters high pole!! In the tradition of the Circus and its exploits, between sky and earth, Julot terrifies us and makes us laugh; He makes us rediscover the delicious taste of vertigo…

Further Performances on the 7 May 2016 at Molos, Limassol, for Europe Day and on the 6 May at Spyros Kyprianou Park (Aglantzia), Nicosia.
